Paraje Inasible

Explores that overwhelming mental state where we seek refuge to hide the manifestations we consider grotesque of our human nature. The title evokes a destiny of acceptance that seems unattainable as long as we continue fleeing from our own shadow. The work is starred by the Squonk, a creature from American folklore that, ashamed of its appearance, lives hidden in crying. Under an aesthetic inspired by the hybrid nature of alebrijes, I have reinterpreted its figure with various animal traits, comparing them with some of my own physical insecurities, to symbolize a fragmented identity within a red, wounded, and exposed skin. This piece functions as a metaphor for vulnerability and distorted self-perception; by transforming pain into artistic expression, I seek to generate empathy toward those parts of ourselves that we usually consider lamentable, grotesque, and shameful.

Ultimately, this painting is an exercise in reconciliation that invites the viewer to stop hiding, reminding us that beauty resides precisely in the fragility of our accepted identity.
